Gala Celebration of Environmental Excellence
The Haliburton Highlands Land Trust (HHLT) invites you to our Gala fundraising event on Friday, May 28 at the Minden Community Centre, starting at 6 pm with the auction preview and hors d’oeuvres by the Wild Orchid. Dinner catered by Bonnie View Inn follows at 7 pm.
The Gala, "Wild About Nature", is a celebration of environmental excellence. The evening will feature an awards ceremony for Enviro-Heroes -- individuals, businesses or organizations that have made a major contribution to the protection and sustainability of our natural resources and environment.
There are five categories: Education, Stewardship, Business, The Arts, and Health.
It is with great pleasure that we announce that there have been 21 Enviro-Hero nominations from the public. A list of the names of all nominees follows this invitation. The caliber of the people, organizations and businesses nominated is outstanding.
Our panel of judges, Barb Bolin, Haliburton Highlands Stewardship Council member, County Warden Dave Burton and Barrie Martin, HHLT director, will have a difficult time choosing a winner in each category.
All nominees will be recognized at the event and the winning nomination in each category will receive a special award designed by past Land Trust director and renowned artist, Mary Anne Barkhouse.
Included in the evening are environmentally themed auctions of art, products and experiences. In addition there are three fabulous raffles: a sterling silver choker with pearls by Susan Watson Ellis, Paradigm Designs; a moose antler basket by Sheila Ziman and a wire sculpture "Garden Heron" by Charles O'Neil. Entertainment will be provided by Bethany Houghton, cellist and Jerelyn Craden, chanteuse.
Jack Brezina and Jerelyn Craden will be your hosts for the evening. Please join us in celebrating all the Enviro-Heroes of Haliburton County. For tickets to the event, please email Wendy Wilkins at waldow@sympatico.ca or call 705-457-4816.
