The Haliburton Highlands Land Trust has just completed phase II of The Turtle Road Mortality Project – installing the barrier fence.
With 27 fabulous volunteers, working alongside our Wildlife Biologist, Paul Heaven, and the help of a backhoe operator from Fowler’s Construction, the barrier has been put in adjacent to the existing culvert at the site.
Next spring (May/June) will see our intrepid Turtle Monitors once again out in the field, watching for any and all turtle activity at this site and two ‘control’ sites. Over the next two years, we will continue to collect data, and watch to see if the turtles use the culvert as an underpass, as intended.
If you are interested in volunteering for the next spring season of monitoring, please contact our office at (705) 457-3700, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
