Join the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust for an interactive, hands-on workshop exploring the basics of digital mapping using the Avenza Maps app! The Avenza Map app is an offline GPS app that can locate you on any map without WiFi or network connectivity.
The workshop includes a 30–45-minute indoor presentation on Avenza, followed by a guided field session at Barnum Creek Nature Reserve where you'll put your new skills into practice.
This event will cover how to:
• Navigate your property or trail maps effectively using Avenza
• Create waypoints and drop pins to label important property/trail features
• Track your route in real-time
• Take geotagged photos
Please note the following:
• You will need to arrive with a fully charged smartphone with the Avenza Maps app downloaded and the Barnum Creek Nature Reserve map uploaded to the App.
• Upon registration, participants will be sent an Avenza Maps manual and map of Barnum Creek Nature Reserve. The manual will walk you through the process of downloading the App and uploading the map of BCNR. If you are having any difficulty with that, we can sort it out at the library before heading into the field.
• Dress for the weather. Program will proceed rain or shine.
Participants must register in advance. The workshop is funded by the Invasive Species Action Fund.
