Bats Project update July 15, 2017

July 15, 2017 update:

We have had great community response to our request for sightings. Paul Heaven, the Land Trust’s project biologist, has visited over 40 locations and has recorded tens of thousands of bat calls.

Though anecdotally we know that bat populations are not as high as they once were, it is good news that we have documented 5 out of the 8 species found in the Province, including the Little Brown Myotis and Eastern Small-footed Myotis, both Species at Risk. We also have evidence of the other three species but we need more data! Please continue to report your bat observations.

We are also proud to find that bats have been recorded on each of the HHLT properties.

Thanks for continuing to support the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust!
