About The Property
Welcome to Minden's next hiking destination!
This amazing property covers 200 acres just 10 minutes north of Minden off Plantation Road.
A Hiker's Dream: Flat meadow and plantation at the north end of the property provide easy walking, while a planned boardwalk offer iconic views of the expansive wetland. To the south, the terrain gets more vertical with forested hills and cliffs to provide a fresh challenge.
Diverse Ecosystems: Flush with 15 unique ecosystems ranging from deciduous forests, meadows, swamps, fens, marshes, and red pine plantations, this property is a natural treasure!
A Wildlife Sanctuary: Visitors can come across blandings turtles, beavers, fox, mink, frogs, rare plants, and countless birds. This spring we logged over 25 bird species in one short hour!
Rich History: The property has been occupied since the original Bobcaygeon settler road was first cleared as far back as 1876 and by indigenous peoples for thousands of years before that. Since the first Crown land deed holder Frederick Lewis Shove's time, the property has passed through many familiar local family names and bears the signs of Minden's logging and agricultural past.
Community Benefits: The property features 50 acres of wetland directly connected to Beaver Creek and upstream of Minden on the Gull River watershed. These wetlands help during flood years, absorbing excess water and preventing Minden's floods from being even worse. These same wetland processes also prevent our wells from running dry during times of drought with some of the property being officially recognized by MNRF as a groundwater recharge area.
