There is NO POOP FAIRY

February 17, 2022

Directors of the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust enjoyed a winter hike at Barnum Creek Nature Reserve.  It was the perfect day to enjoy nature and to install a sign asking for pet owners to be considerate of others and the environment by cleaning up after their pet.

Please refer to our page on trail etiquette for more information.

2022 Enviro-Heroes Announced

January 15, 2022

Haliburton Highlands Land Trust is pleased to announce its 2022 Enviro-Heroes award winners:

  • Terry Moore, host of Planet Haliburton on CanoeFM
  • Haliburton County Master Gardeners
  • Blake Parkinson, teen environmental activist

Terry Moore

was named an Enviro-Hero in the education category.  Terry has been at the forefront of many environmental issues facing Haliburton County and is dedicated to protecting our environment and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. He is vice-president of Environment Haliburton! (EH!) and his radio show features leading scientists and thought leaders who help shine light on pressing environmental issues.

The Haliburton County Master Gardeners

were named Enviro-Heroes in the stewardship category. Landowners often call the group’s volunteers for gardening tips or to book personalized consultations at their properties. They also have PowerPoint presentations they send to property owners and they hold a plant sale each May, with a focus on plants suitable for Haliburton properties.

Blake Parkinson

was awarded an Enviro-Hero Youth Award. He is a Grade 8 student who’s led beluga whale protection campaigns, a beach cleanup, and even a “Swim for the Sea” fundraiser at his grandparents’ Lake Kashagawigamog cottage for the Worldwide Wildlife Foundation.  Watch for Parkinson as host of Planet Protectors, his own environmental video series on his Instagram page.
